During that time I had the pleasure of being the Creative Director for the Mayor of London New Year’s eve spectacular 2021 and 2022, reimagining the original London Eye pyro format to include a richer narrative, multiple sites and the largest drone show in the UK at the time.

For the first show acknowledging that 2020 was a difficult year for the globe also gave space to reflect on the good that emerged whilst telling a hopeful story of the year to come. Broadcast to over 10 million people live and with an 11 million viewer count on YouTube (the most viewed NYE show ever) it was a beloved spectacular. Redefining how London rings in the New Year.

Following the success of 2021, creatively leading and directing the next spectacular in 2022 was a natural evolution. Including live performance, an expanded 3D drone fleet and richer, cross city storytelling.

NYE 2022 was the first NYE broadcast to feature two live performances. I crafted the storyline, developed and wrote the script with the team, and creatively directed the various skilled teams such as drone, lighting and pyro across the 13 minute spectacular. Celebrating London’s entertainment and arts scene coming back to life from the depths of the pandemic.
